UTRECHT > The municipality of Utrecht has adopted the preliminary design for the redesign of the Donaudreef in Overvecht. The aim of this redesign is to make the street safer and greener. This is achieved, among other things, by narrowing the street, creating more space for greenery and trees, and reducing the traffic speed to 30 kilometers per hour.
The redesign of Donaudreef was started due to concerns about the current traffic situation in Donaudreef, where some parts are considered unsafe by residents. The main purpose of these plans is to increase road safety and create a greener living environment.
After consultation with residents, independent Goudappel agency and organizations such as the Cyclists’ Union, changes have been made to the design. Based on this, a number of adjustments have been made to the preliminary design, such as applying street print (asphalt that looks like clinker paving), revising crossing locations, reinstalling speed bumps and improving the accessibility of the bus stops. In addition, some parking spaces will be moved to improve the view from side streets of Donaudreef.
The design is currently being further developed into a final design. Work is expected to start in early 2025. Before the work starts, the municipality will organize an information meeting to further inform local residents about the implementation phase.
