From phase 2 to phase 3 of Operation Ring South, what will change for car traffic?

--

Julianaplein

These directions are open on Julianaplein in phase 3 (April 27 – May 5):

  • from Drachten towards Assen
  • from Assen towards Hoogezand (this is closed on May 4 and 5)

ORZ phase 3B

What will open in phase 3?

From Hoogkerk/Drachten to Julianaplein

If you come from Hoogkerk/Drachten, you can drive to Julianaplein again from April 27. There is also no longer a closed lane on the A7.

Connecting arch Drachten towards Assen

The first new connecting arch will open on Julianaplein. That is the arc for traffic from Hoogkerk/Drachten to Haren/Assen.

From Ring West to Julianaplein

The last new connecting arch will open on Freedom Square (near Gasunie) on April 27. You can then return from the western ring road towards Julianaplein.

Underpass viaduct Van Ketwich Verschuurlaan

The underpass of the viaduct at Van Ketwich Verschuurlaan will be fully opened again. Now another part is closed.

Kempkensberg temporary road

You can go from the Helperzoom to the Hereweg via a new, temporary road. This road runs over the Kempkensberg, past the construction site of the sunken location. There is also a cycle path next to it. There will be traffic controllers at the connection to Hereweg for the first few days.

Southern ring road from Euvelgunne junction to Julianaplein

The southern ring road will be closed in a westerly direction until September 2. If you come from the A7 from the direction of Hoogezand, you will not be able to drive onto the southern ring road for the time being. You can only access the eastern ring road. If you want to go to Hoogkerk/Drachten or Haren/Assen, you can go around the city via Rondje Ring.

Hoogezand connecting arc towards Assen

On Julianaplein you can no longer go from Hoogezand to Assen. That also makes sense, because the entire southern ring road towards Julianaplein is closed.

Groningen-Zuid towards Julianaplein

From April 26 to June 26, you cannot take the ramp from Van Ketwich Verschuurlaan to Julianaplein. We are permanently furnishing this driveway.

Helperzoom underpass

From Helperzoom you can no longer drive under the ring road to Waterloolaan. This underpass will be closed from April 26. You can visit here again in December. Then the current ring road will disappear. You can drive from the Helperzoom to the Hereweg via a temporary road, over the Kempkensberg. This applies to cars and cyclists.

Vondellaan towards Brailleweg and vice versa

Car traffic from the A28 (from Haren/Assen) to the southern ring road (towards Hoogezand) can use the Centrum exit and the Vondellaan entrance ramp at Julianaplein during the first days of phase 3 (until May 4). Due to the flow, car traffic from Vondellaan towards Brailleweg and vice versa (under the A28) will be blocked. However, car traffic can turn left from the Centrum exit to the Brailleweg. Cyclists are not inconvenienced by this, the Brailleweg cycling valley remains open.

King’s night

King’s Night is turnover night. On this night of April 26 to 27 we will transition from phase 2 to phase 3. We will use this night to remove the existing road barriers from phase 2 and place new road barriers for phase 3. This means that there are many deposits at the same time in that one night. Sales night lasts from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
