Schiphol has a busy start to the May holidays, but according to a spokesperson, travelers do not have to wait long. “There are lines and it is busy, but it is manageable and the atmosphere is good among passengers.”

The airport reported this week that it expects a 10 percent busier May holiday compared to last year. Schiphol expects that an average of more than 70,000 people will depart from the airport every day during the May holidays.

Staff shortages at the airport caused long lines during holiday periods two years ago. As a result, many people missed their flights. There were also riots. Financial CEO Robert Carsouw said in February that the airport had hired many security guards to prevent chaos like the summer of 2022.

The FNV trade union said on Wednesday that it did not expect any problems at Schiphol this May holiday. “You can see from all sides that a lot of work is being done by employers to get through that peak in the spring and summer,” said FNV director David van de Geer.

The Royal Military Police also recently said that it was well prepared for the crowds at the airport during the May holidays. “When it gets very busy, we place our priorities on departing and transferring passengers, so that no one has to miss their flight.”
