This is evident from research by the ANP, which compared the 2021 figures with the current rates. Of the 42 municipalities in Limburg, 14 issue a parking permit. It should come as no surprise that these are generally the urban municipalities. The prices differ considerably, as does the average amount a resident spends per year on parking his or her vehicle.
Cheapest and most expensive parking permit
The cheapest parking permit can be found in the Municipality of Vaals: here residents who live in a zone where a parking permit is required pay only 42 euros per year. Maastricht takes the cake provincially. In our provincial capital, the most expensive parking permit costs no less than 342.20 euros per year. On a national level, Maastricht can compete with municipalities such as ‘s Hertogenbosch (367 euros), Groningen (369.70 euros) and Zeist (330 euros).
Cities such as Kerkrade, Venlo, Heerlen, Weert, Roermond and Venray follow at an appropriate distance: here residents pay between 176 (Kerkrade) and 125 euros (Venray) per year for the most expensive parking permit. The rest of the municipalities are in the lower category with the lowest rate being 37.50 euros in Eijsden-Margraten.
There are also large differences between municipalities in terms of price increases. Venlo is the leader with an increase of 25.4 percent compared to 2021, and rates have also risen sharply in Maastricht (19.9 percent). In the rest of the province it was not too bad: nowhere else was an increase of more than 7.9 percent (Weert) observed. The rate did not decrease in any Limburg municipality.
