All activists arrested at an Extinction Rebellion (XR) protest on Saturday have been released. In total, about 130 demonstrators were arrested. They blocked the A10 near the former ING office in Amsterdam.

About ninety demonstrators were taken to another location after their arrest and then immediately released. Forty people were suspected of deliberately causing danger on the highway. They had to stay longer, but were able to leave on Saturday evening.

During King’s Day, eight vehicles managed to block the highway at two locations. This allowed demonstrators to enter the road. The police speak of a “life-threatening action”

The Amsterdam triangle (mayor, police and justice) had already called the blockade on King’s Day irresponsible and had therefore banned the action. That’s why the police quickly cleared the road again. The cars that the activists used for the demonstration have been seized.

Extinction Rebellion demands that ING immediately stop financing the fossil industry. Afterwards, a spokesperson for the action group called the action “a great success”.

The last attempt to block the A10 on March 30 failed. In February and December, XR managed to demonstrate on the Amsterdam highway.
