A day after the parties, festivals and free markets, yesterday’s first impression is confirmed: the Netherlands celebrated King’s Day in a friendly and pleasant atmosphere. There were no problems in most places, although there was an incident here and there, such as a major fight last night in the entertainment center of Drachten. The police intervened and cleared the area.

Police units from all over Friesland came to Drachten for this purpose, reports Omrop Fryslân. A suspect has been arrested for disturbing public order.

Equally grim

The party also resulted in a riot between groups of young people in Baarn. In a park in the Utrecht town, dozens of partygoers refused to go home around midnight and the atmosphere was equally grim.

Dozens of visitors did not want to leave the site, so the police cleared the park. No one was injured. A 20-year-old man from Soest was arrested, also for disturbing public order. He was sent home with a fine later in the evening, RTV Utrecht reports.

To clean

Municipal workers across the country have been busy cleaning up in recent hours. Major cleaning started last night in Amsterdam and other major cities. During the morning, most of the dirt in the center of the capital was removed, AT5 reports.

The municipality had taken various measures for King’s Day. For example, extra waste bins were placed and there was a special return point for items that were not sold on the free market. In addition, more than 350 mobile toilets were installed.

Most municipalities already reported yesterday that there were hardly any significant incidents during King’s Night and Day. The police do not yet have a national picture.
