On board patrol ship Zr.Ms. Zeeland burned for an hour and a half last night. It would be a big fire. There was no one on board the ship.

The fire broke out on the Zeeland around half past two in the morning. The Holland class patrol ship is located in the naval port of Den Helder.

Half an hour after the first report of 01:18 a.m., the fire brigade scaled up to “very large fire”, as can be read on Alarmerings.nl, among others. According to the same website, the fire brigade took action with two tanker syringes and the help of corps from Breezand was called in. Two ambulances were also sent.

The Royal Netherlands Navy has its own Navy fire brigade, especially for fires on board ships in the Nieuwe Haven (although this fire brigade is also deployed for civil emergencies in the city). Together with the civil fire brigade of Den Helder, the Marine Fire Brigade practiced for a large fire in the port on Friday. That practice fire raged aboard a frigate.

Now it really hit the spot on board the Zeeland. The ‘fire extinguished’ signal was given around 03:00 am.

Nothing is known about the damage yet. As soon as there is more information, this article will be updated.
