do not boycott the Dutch press, assures Arno Vermeulen. The attacking midfielder is indeed open to interviews with Dutch media, the NOS commentator claimed on Sunday evening Studio Football.

Simons refused earlier this month an interview with RTL7 after a Champions League match between Real Madrid and RB Leipzig. Simons also did not appear in front of the cameras during the international matches of the Dutch national team. He would feel unfairly treated by the Dutch press, explained ESPN journalist Pascal Kamperman.

According to Vermeulen, the fork is different. “After a Champions League match with RB Leipzig, he did not speak to RTL7. That is of course not very nice to our colleagues. It was then said in an ESPN program that he declared a real press boycott and also did not want to talk to the press around the Dutch team. That is not true.”

“We broadcast the matches of the Dutch national team and we did not request him for an interview, because there was no real reason,” Vermeulen makes clear. “But the KNVB confirms that he would have spoken to us if we had wanted that. So this is actually a misunderstanding. It can no longer be stopped via the cut and paste sites that we all know.”

William of Hanegem supports players who occasionally snap at the press.
