Former Feyenoord player John van Loen put together the team of the week of matchday 27 of the Eredivisie The Telegraph. It was clear to him who was the player of the week: Dávid Hancko. The Slovak scored a fantastic goal against FC Utrecht, helping Feyenoord to victory.

Van Loen, who played two seasons at De Kuip from 1993 to 1995, is very fond of the Feyenoord defender. “Hancko is out of category,” he begins. “And a special professional, if you also hear Arne Slot talk about him. One who does everything he can to be fit, down to his eating and rest moments. That also makes him super fit and then you see him at the end “I still continue to rage in the first minute of a match,” said the former striker, who scored seventeen goals in 54 games at Feyenoord.

The Slovak has played most of his games in the heart of defense, but when he plays at left back he seems to score very easily. Three of his eight goals in a Feyenoord shirt were as a left wing-back. The other goals, except one, came from standard situations.

Van Loen sees that Hancko can perform excellently in both positions. “It doesn’t matter whether he is on the left center or on the left back. He seems even better as a left back, because then he always scores. And no bad goals either…,” he concludes.
