John van ‘t Schip is obviously very disappointed with the suspension of Ajax director Alex Kroes. “This creates a lot of unrest,” the trainer of the Amsterdam team said on Wednesday.

“This is very annoying for the club and everyone involved,” Van ‘t Schip said on the Ajax website. “The moment is also annoying. It has not calmed down since I got in.”

On Tuesday it was announced that the club suspended Kroes two weeks after his start at the club, because he bought Ajax shares with insider information. Ajax therefore has to look for a new general manager.

Van ‘t Schip is really upset about it. “‘Pity’ isn’t even the right word,” says the sixty-year-old coach. “You hope that the club can find calm waters. That was not possible until the arrival of Kroes. And then he suddenly leaves a few weeks later. That creates a lot of unrest.”

Van ‘t Schip’s new role has not yet been determined

Van ‘t Schip points out that this has an influence on the players. “That does something to a group,” he explains. “People sometimes forget that. Players experience all this.”

“When the players heard the news, they were like: not again. Like: ‘It won’t happen, will it?’ Basically what most people thought when the news came out. They couldn’t believe this is happening now. I said that now more than ever it is important to form a close team. But that is quite difficult at this stage.”

Van ‘t Schip does not yet know what the Kroes issue means for himself. The intention is for the coach to take on a technical position after the summer. “Those agreements still had to be put on paper,” says Van ‘t Schip. “I assume that the agreements will remain unchanged. My role is not linked to the fate of Alex Kroes.”
