Feyenoord will travel to the away match at FC Volendam on Thursday in the persons of (18) and Givairo Read (17) with two possible debutants. Trainer Arne Slot also does not yet have access to the bottom of the Eredivisie, who has not yet recovered from the injury that also kept him sidelined on Sunday in the 4-2 home game against FC Utrecht.

Against the Domstedelingen, left back Quilindschy Hartman dropped out after half an hour of play, as it turned out with an injury that will cost him the rest of the season and the European Championship next summer. The defender joins the list of injured people for whom the match in Volendam also comes too early. In addition to Ivanusec, these are Justin Bijlow, Gernot Trauner, Antoni Milambo, Gjivai Zechiёl and Alireza Jahanbakhsh, the Stadium Club writes on its own website.

“Partly for this reason, Givairo Read and Jaden Slory have joined the competition selection,” the article continues. If seventeen-year-old Read actually gets playing minutes, he will make his debut in a special position in the Rotterdam team’s first team. The right back played in the youth academy of FC Volendam until last summer. That club saw Read transfer to Rotterdam-Zuid on a transfer-free basis, and to make matters worse, claimed too late the training compensation to which they were indeed entitled. In February of this year it emerged that the threshing club had lost out on an amount of ‘almost €200,000’.

Apprehensive
Despite the difference in the rankings – Feyenoord is firmly in second place, Volendam is firmly at the bottom – Slot is apprehensive about Thursday’s match. “In the situation Volendam is in, every point is a point. Also for confidence in the team,” the coach points out. He has not forgotten the home game of December 7: both clubs went into injury time in De Kuip with the score 1-1. However, due to late goals from Santiago Giménez and Igor Paixão, the Rotterdam team still escaped a disastrous division of points. “That match showed that we cannot afford to be less sharp against any opponent,” says Slot.
