John van ‘t Schip has responded for the first time to the departure of Alex Kroes from Ajax. On Tuesday morning it emerged that the brand new general manager of the Amsterdam team has to leave again due to insider trading.

“Annoying for the club and everyone involved,” Van ‘t Schip begins on the Ajax club website. “It hasn’t calmed down since I stepped in. Sad might not even be the right word. You hope that the club can create peace in some way, but there was none until Alex Kroes.”

Van ‘t Schip sees that Kroes’ lightning departure does not help the peace within the club. “It just creates a lot of unrest,” says the coach. “In that situation we actually have to perform the entire season with a group that is young. I have to say that they are doing well in that respect and are taking it well.”

Yet all the unrest within the club certainly has an impact on Ajax’s selection. “The players hear and read everything and they feel the pressure that comes with it. In fact, they couldn’t do much about that. Last transfer window I asked for more reinforcements. Then Henderson came, but actually if you get an A you would also want B and C, just to take that away a bit from the young boys.”

After the group of players had been informed, the trainer of the Amsterdam team mainly noticed disbelief within his selection. “You then get a taste in the group of ‘not again’ and ‘it won’t happen’, actually what a lot of people think and don’t believe what is happening. But then they quickly return to the order of the day, which is also typical of a football player.”

Van ‘t Schip has no doubts about his own future at Ajax. “The agreements would be put on paper, but that still has to happen. But I assume that the agreements will remain in place,” the trainer is certain. “There will be further discussions after that, so it is not as if it was ready-made to sign.”
