Robin van Persie is in talks with SC Heerenveen to become head coach. The AD even reports that both parties are approaching an agreement.

Sources report to NOS that discussions are indeed underway, but that there are other options open to both Heerenveen and Van Persie.

Reunion with De Haan

For Van Persie, employment at sc Heerenveen means a reunion with Ferry de Haan, who is currently technical director at the Frisians. Van Persie and de Haan won the UEFA Cup as players for Feyenoord in 2002.

At Omrop Fryslan, De Haan did not deny that discussions are underway, but that Van Persie is not the only candidate. He previously spoke with former Ajax coach Maurice Steijn and VVV coach Rick Kruys. “Fortunately, not everything is on the street,” De Haan emphasized.

Heerenveen director De Haan does not deny interest in Van Persie: ‘There are discussions’

For Van Persie, former striker for Feyenoord, Arsenal and Manchester United, among others, it would be his first job as head coach. He is currently the trainer of Feyenoord’s under 18s. The Rotterdam club wanted to promote him to the under-21s, but Van Persie seems to have rejected that offer.

It was previously announced that the current head coach of Heerenveen, Kees van Wonderen, will leave the club after this season. His expiring contract will not be extended.

The possible switch was already discussed in Studio Voetbal:
