Thursday could be the big day for PSV. The championship has been beckoning for weeks, but on Thursday the Eindhoven team can become definitive champions. Trainer Peter Bosz himself does not suffer from championship jitters, but notices that his group of players is becoming increasingly enthusiastic. When the championship actually arrives, it doesn’t matter to the trainer.
If PSV becomes champion on Thursday, it will happen on the bus ride from Heerenveen to Eindhoven. Because PSV plays earlier than Feyenoord and if they win, it depends on what the Rotterdam team does at Go Ahead Eagles. If Feyenoord loses points and PSV wins, the title is won.
If Feyenoord also wins, the championship will become a fact a week later on Sunday afternoon at home against Sparta. For many supporters, that moment is much more beautiful. “But I just want to become champion as quickly as possible,” Bosz says a day before the possible championship match. “If that happens on the A50 then so be it.”
“People from Brabant make it a good party.”
And so the coach does not necessarily have a preference to become a champion at home. “That party will happen anyway. I’m not a Brabander, but I know that the Brabanders still throw a good party. Then it doesn’t matter whether that is tomorrow or next week.”
The trainer still lacks the championship jitters. “Probably because we don’t have complete control over tomorrow.” But among his group of players he notices that something is coming.
“It’s all a bit noisier at training this week. Normally they listen after one time, but now ‘daddy’ has to shout three times. It’s like a group of kids.”
“Dest is devastated.”
By the way, it wasn’t all merriment at the club this week. Sergino Dest was seriously injured during training and does not appear to be in action again this calendar year. “He came to tell the doctor. Then there was deathly silence among the group of players. It’s really terrible for that boy. He is devastated.” Despite his injury, PSV would like to continue with the left back and is looking at the options to exercise the option to purchase.
Ricardo Pepi and Ismael Saibari will return to the group in Heerenveen on Thursday. They can contribute to PSV possibly becoming champions tomorrow. We will know around 10:45 PM.
