Arne Slot’s upcoming transfer to Liverpool is the topic of conversation in England. There are many doubts about the arrival of the Dutchman, but he can also count on support.

“I didn’t expect this at all,” says Andy Gray about Slot’s transfer beIN SPORTS. “I have no idea where this came from. If you had given me thirty guesses two weeks ago who would be Liverpool’s new manager, I would not have mentioned Arne Slot’s name.”

Co-presenter Richard Keys also did not see the choice for Slot coming. “I try to put myself in the shoes of Liverpool fans. Am I excited? No. Am I surprised? Yes. To be honest, I expected more. I cannot name any Dutch trainers who succeeded in our competition. There are some who had some success, such as Hiddink, Van Gaal or Gullit, but none of them had success over a longer period of time. I think he is Erik ten Hag in disguise.”

However, not everyone present is negative about Liverpool’s appointment of Slot. “I think he is a great trainer,” says John Obi Mikel. “He has done very well at Feyenoord. He plays the type of football that Liverpool fans love, attacking with lots of goals.” Gray tries to temper expectations: “That description you give of him is exactly the description that Manchester United fans received about Erik ten Hag.” Mikel does see a difference between the situations of Slot and Ten Hag. “The difference is that Slot has the players at Liverpool to play football like that,” concludes the former Chelsea midfielder.
