Sydney Sweeney (26) has landed a new role. The much sought-after actress will play the leading role in a film about the American boxing star Christy Martin (55), reports ‘Deadline’. Christy is considered one of the most famous and successful American boxers ever.

The Euphoria actress explains Deadline about her passion for boxing and MMA (mixed martial arts). “I wrestled and kickboxed from age 12 to 19. I was eager to get back in the ring, train and transform my body,” Sydney said. “Christy’s story is not light, it is physically and emotionally demanding, there is a lot of weight to carry. But I love to challenge myself.”
Christy not only had a much-discussed life in the ring. She was abused and later the victim of a murder attempt. “She overcame gender stereotypes and fought through emotional, physical and financial abuse,” Sydney continued. “I feel compelled to tell a story about a woman who has had to overcome so much adversity and not let it defeat her. It’s powerful and emotional.”
The new biopic is directed by David Michôd. According to the filmmakers, Christy herself also contributed to the project. The plan is for filming to begin in the fall in the US.
