Mark van Bommel and Marc Overmars, as trainer and (currently suspended) technical director, are about to leave the Belgian Royal Antwerp FC, it is reported Telegraph-journalist Valentijn Driessen. The Dutch duo led The Great Old last season to the double (national title and cup), but this year has not come close to those successes.

In the podcast Kick Off the future of Van Bommel and Overmars is the subject of discussion. “Van Bommel is simply leaving, and I think Overmars too,” Driessen begins. “It’s all over, including that chairman. He has so many financial problems, he can no longer keep all his agreements at Antwerp, so he’s gone.”

The signals that it would be the end of the story for the Dutch duo have been there for some time, Driessen explains. “Mike and I arrived at Germany – Netherlands (played on March 26, ed.) already a reporter The last news who already said it was in the pipeline. And this week I heard that it is the end of the story. That team is of course no longer a shadow of the team with which he won the championship last season.”

Van Bommel led the reigning champions to third place in the regular Belgian competition this season, eighteen points less than Union Sint-Gillis, which finished at the top. In the championship round, in which the points from the regular season are halved, the club is currently fifth and the gap with the current leader Anderlecht is twelve points. However, Antwerp will again be in the cup final on May 9, in which Union is the opponent.
