Dutchman Frank van den Broek wins Tour of Turkey after aborted final stage | Cycling

--

Frank van den Broek won the Tour of Turkey on Sunday. The 23-year-old Dutchman from Team dsm-firmenich PostNL won the stage race after the last stage was neutralized due to bad weather conditions.

In the last stage with start and finish in Istanbul, the riders rode only one of the five local rounds, behind the organization’s car. As a result, no more shifts took place in the general classification.

Van den Broek finished in the final standings with a four-second lead over Eritrean Merhawi Kudus of Terengganu Cycling Team. The British Paul Double (Team Polti Kometa) finished third at nine seconds from Van den Broek.

Van den Broek took the lead in the rankings on Friday with a win in the sixth stage, in which he defeated Kudus in the sprint after a long climb. The stage victory was only his second professional victory. Last year he won a stage in the Tour of Qinghai Lake.

Team dsm-firmenich PostNL recorded five stage victories in the Tour of Turkey. Van den Broek’s Danish teammate Tobias Lund Andresen won three. Fabio Jakobsen was the best in the opening stage.
