If Santiago Gimenez moves to the Premier League, he should not expect him to have time to adapt to English football. At least that is the advice of his current teammate at Feyenoord, Alireza Jahanbahksh, who previously operated on that stage.

“I have a lot of conversations with Santi conducted,” the Iranian said in the program Kick ‘t Met by Ziggo Sports. “He’s a great player and a great man. We get along well and we have discussed the whole situation in detail.”

Thirty-year-old Jahanbahksh played at the highest level in England for three seasons. Brighton & Hove Albion plucked the wing attacker from AZ after his successful season and paid 22.5 million euros for his arrival.

In England, Jahanbahksh never managed to realize his transfer fee. After exactly 50 games in the Premier League, with two goals and one assist, Feyenoord brought the right leg back to the Eredivisie.

“The Premier League is a great competition,” Jahanbaksh admits. Every footballer would say that the dream is to play in the Premier League. The biggest difference between the Eredivisie and Premier League is probably the pace.”

“You come across many more quality players there, with all due respect to the players in the Eredivisie. It is a competition that the whole world watches. There are always expectations. One of the biggest differences is that in countries like the Netherlands and even in the Bundesliga you always get the time to develop and adapt to a new environment.”

“But in the Premier League they expect you to be there straight away. You have to live up to expectations immediately and they start to judge you if you are not there immediately.” Now Gimenez is waiting for the same treatment.

After a particularly excellent first six months in the Netherlands, a move across the Channel beckons. Tottenham Hotspur are said to be one of the clubs very interested in the services of the Mexican. Gimenez is given the choice whether he prefers to play in LaLiga or the Premier League.

“I think both are at the same level. In Spain they speak the same language as me, but the Premier League is the best football in the world. Do I have clubs where I want to play? Sure, but I don’t want to say them out loud, because then you close certain doors.”
