Martin Henrion will transfer from Standard Liège to Ajax on a free transfer next summer. The only sixteen-year-old closing post did not have to think long about his choice for the Amsterdam team, which he explained on the club’s official channels.
“I feel good and it was a wonderful day,” Henrion said after signing his contract. Ajax had the necessary competition to secure the closing position, but managed to come out on top. “Ajax is one of the best training clubs. They have a lot of confidence in the youth and that’s why it made sense to come here. I immediately chose Ajax.”

The Belgians who currently play for Ajax, such as Mika Godts, Ethan Butera and Rayane Bounida, also influenced Henrion’s decision. “I thought, if they can make that step, then I should be able to do it too.” He does not yet speak the Dutch language. “But I do want to learn it,” says the goalkeeper.
When asked what kind of goalkeeper he is, the Belgian describes himself as modern. “I am a modern goalkeeper. Good on the line, but also with the feet and in the air. Ederson’s footwork is an inspiration to me.”
