Lewis Hamilton believes that the dominance of Max Verstappen and Red Bull this year is not good for the sport. He would prefer to see the drivers make the difference, and the cars are almost equal.

In 2022, Mercedes has not yet managed to book a victory. This while Ferrari and especially Red Bull dominate and are currently above Mercedes in the world championship. Both championships this year pass the Silver Arrows, and Hamilton will experience a different way of racing this season than in previous years. The main question is whether there will be another victory for the seven-time world champion. Still, Hamilton is bothered by something.

Skills

In conversation with racer Hamilton, seven-time world champion, says he would like to see a change in Formula 1 in terms of cars. According to the Brit, the dominance of Red Bull and Verstappen is not a good sign. “I do watch (other) sports and I wish it was just the sheer skill that makes all the difference.” However, he also sees a challenge in it. “So many people’s skills come together – the communication, the amount of work, the processes, the direction you’re going. It’s like we’re all steering the boat. While we have Toto (Wolff) upstairs as helmsman, we as drivers are also part of the crew steering the boat in the right direction.”

2021

Hamilton’s statements come after years in which he dominated with Mercedes itself and was able to celebrate a world championship six times. Only teammate Nico Rosberg could prevent Hamilton from becoming world champion seven times in a row. That series, and the dominance of Mercedes, came to an end at the end of 2021 when Verstappen became world champion in Abu Dhabi.
