They spent no less than five hundred hours working on those versions. “It was a long road,” Teun says in the video on Instagram. The song was also made from his bedroom, where he has his own small studio. “That was helpful because it made it easier for me to really dive into it.”

Another notable fact is that the voice of the character Gerrie from the TV series New Kids was used in the song. He shouts somewhere in the song: “Hey, welcome to Europe boy!” Toon and Joost are also the official owners of the song ‘Europapa’. This does not apply to many other acts, because they work under a record label.

Furthermore, the well-known ‘pa pa pa’ part in the song was never really sung in this way by Joost. Teun made this part with a synthesizer, he reveals.

The Eurovision Song Contest is from May 7 to 11 in Malmö, Sweden. Joost competes for a place in the final in the second semi-final. Bookmakers think that Switzerland has the best chance of winning. Croatia is in second place.
