Marita Pengel and Martin van Gent will both continue as one-man factions in the municipal council. This was made official during the city council meeting of Monday, March 25.

In 2022, the Capels Bewoners Belang (CBB) party won two seats during the municipal elections. Both Marita Pengel and Martin van Gent came to the municipal council on behalf of the party.

Less than two months after the elections, there appeared to be dissatisfaction between Van Gent and Pengel. The quarrel turned out to have driven a definitive wedge. They no longer had contact with each other and they no longer sat next to each other in the municipal council.

Both council members no longer wanted to continue together, but neither wanted to leave CBB: both Pengel and Van Gent wanted to continue (without each other) under the name Capels Bewoners Belang.

Mayor makes the decision

The mayor eventually looked into the matter as chairman of the council. He has proposed that Marita Pengel may continue her party under the name ‘Capels Bewoners Belang’ and Martin van Gent under the name ‘Faction Van Gent’ until he makes a name change. The city council agreed to this on Monday. Pengel and Van Gent themselves were not present during this council meeting.
