In the second episode of the series we saw how Willem-Alexander introduced his new love Máxima to his mother. Beatrix did not immediately react enthusiastically: she was working in the garden and first wanted to put on clean clothes. Shortly afterwards, an awkward introduction followed, in which she grilled Máxima.

The biggest challenge for Elsie was to show that Beatrix’s aloofness has to do with her position, she says in the magazine. She herself views the royal family positively. “My father used to be a lawyer for Queen Juliana. As a little girl I saw her on Soestdijk. She was very warm and involved then.”

Playing Beatrix is not easy, says the actress. “I found it quite difficult to play someone who really exists. I don’t really look like her either. But I try to show her inside, and I think that’s right.”

To better empathize with the role of Beatrix, Elsie studied images of the queen’s public activities. She does not find it extra exciting that the princess can also watch the series herself. “No, because I’m not ashamed of it. I hope she likes it,” she said earlier.
