Every year in April, cities and municipalities in Flanders organize the ‘Market Month’ competition. The city of Oudenaarde is participating again. “You also have a chance to win great prizes with every purchase at our markets,” says councilor for Local Economy Julie Dossche (Open VLD).
The ‘Market Month’ campaign will be organized from April 1 to 30, a campaign to encourage local buying. This is an initiative of the five Flemish provinces, Ondernemerscentrum West and the Flemish Federation of Ambulatory Trade, with financial support from the Flemish Agency for Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
The city of Oudenaarde joins this for the third year in a row. “Participating is very simple,” explains Alderman Julie Dossche. “You receive a savings card for every purchase you make at our weekly market on Thursday mornings. Complete it completely and put it in the competition box at the entrance to the town hall. Or you download the free app ‘I buy locally’ and register your purchases digitally by scanning the QR code at the stalls with your smartphone.”
Win market checks
The city council of Oudenaarde, together with the market vendors, provides twenty prizes. The winners are drawn by an innocent hand.
“The first, second and third winners will be treated to a breakfast for two people in Steenhuyze restaurant,” explains Alderman Julie Dossche.
“In addition, the first winner will receive 100 euros in checks to spend on our markets. The second to fifth place will win market checks worth 50 euros and the sixth to twentieth place will win market checks of 20 euros. The province of East Flanders is giving away its own prize pool.”
“New this year is a dash of music while shopping. On Thursday, April 18, the Colby Musicband from Geraardsbergen will provide atmosphere and ambiance. This is the perfect opportunity to come and discover the market experience and support our local economy.”
