Devastation on N242 near Heerhugowaard: road closed

Accident N242 Heerhugowaard

A truck with a trailer was transporting a crane. It turned out to be too high for the railway bridge that crosses the N242. The impact against the bridge caused the crane to fall off the trailer and hit a car. The woman who was in this car was checked by the ambulance service and fortunately did not have to be taken to the hospital.

Due to the enormous damage, the N242 from the Zuidtangent in Heerhugowaard towards Alkmaar is closed. From Alkmaar, traffic will have to detour via the Westtangent. Train traffic will also be at a standstill for the time being due to the damage to the railway bridge.

UPDATE: The N242 will be closed until at least 6 p.m. A road inspector reports on X that the road will remain closed due to repair work and salvage.
