As to what exactly happened on August 20 at De Sont in Emmeloord that caused the fire, there was no answer to that question in the court in Lelystad on Wednesday. The 38-year-old woman from Emmeloord who is on trial for arson could not appear in court because she had a car accident.

Instead of telling her side of the story to the court, the woman lay on the operating table on Wednesday. The injuries she sustained in the accident turned out to be more serious than expected, according to a message from her lawyer. She would need at least two to three months to recover. The court has now scheduled the substantive hearing of the case for July 17 and is monitoring whether this date is feasible for the suspect.

Intentionally lit

The woman is said to have deliberately started the fire in the house by leaving a pan with food, fat or something else flammable on the fire for a long time. When the police subsequently investigated the fire, 12.5 milliliters of the drug GHB were found in the home. The woman must also explain this to the court.

The case was supposed to be heard in December, but was canceled because the Probation Report had not yet been received by the court. The Probation Service was then faced with capacity problems, which meant that drawing up a report took longer than usual.
