OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and the bosses of Nvidia, Microsoft and Alphabet are among the top executives set to join a new US government AI advisory board. This is reported by business newspaper The Wall Street Journal. The advisory group will focus on the safe use of artificial intelligence (AI) within key parts of the US infrastructure, healthcare and economy.

Working with the Department of Homeland Security, the advisory board will provide recommendations to power grid operators, transportation companies, hospitals and key industries on the use of AI. They also advise on how to protect their systems against possible threats that could be caused by the rapid developments of AI.

In addition to Altman of OpenAI, the company behind chatbot ChatGPT, CEO Jensen Huang of AI chip company Nvidia, Microsoft boss Satya Nadella and Alphabet boss Sundar Pichai, the advisory board will consist of a total of about 24 members. In addition to top leaders in the field of AI, academics, politicians and administrators from other important sectors also participate in the council, including CEO Kathy Warden of the defense and aerospace company Northrop Grumman and CEO Ed Bastian of the airline Delta Air Lines.
