Extinction Rebellion will block the A10 near Amsterdam on King’s Day

Extinction Rebellion (XR) plans to block the A10 near the former ING office on King’s Day. “In honor of King’s Day, we ask King Willem-Alexander to speak out against fossil financing,” says XR spokesperson Let de Jong op X.

It is the fourth time that XR wants to block the A10 motorway near the former ING office. Mayor Femke Halsema calls the choice of King’s Day irresponsible and has officially banned the demonstration.

Cartoons with sex education can be seen around the city

Return point for empty bottles and cans at the intersection of Vijzelstraat and Prinsengracht

Empty bottles or cans? You can find them at the ‘Holle Dolle Donnie’ at the intersection of Vijzelstraat and Prinsengracht. This 10-meter-high deposit return point with the image of rapper Donnie should ensure that cans and bottles are kept out of the canal.

With the initiative, Statiegeld Nederland – the foundation responsible for the deposit system – wants to make participants aware of the importance of returning packaging in a playful way. The proceeds go to a foundation for the homeless.

DJ Martin Garrix will again give a fireworks show on the Zuidas

DJ Martin Garrix will also give a fireworks show this King’s Day from the roof terrace of his home on the Amsterdam Zuidas. He has received ignition permission for the show from the provincial North Sea Canal Area Environmental Agency. For this permit, it is checked whether the show meets all safety requirements.

The fireworks may be set off between 9:00 PM and 11:30 PM from the roof of the apartment complex on Gustav Mahlerlaan. The total ignition time will take about ten minutes.

Not all local residents are happy with the fireworks show. “This is a residential/work area, not an event location,” says one of them AT5 know. “It’s nice that he’s throwing a party, but the neighborhood is experiencing a lot of inconvenience. Noise and mess.”

The weather during King’s Day

The temperature is about 14 degrees in the Kop van Noord-Holland to 16 degrees in the rest of the country.
