(ABM FN-Dow Jones) American consumer confidence in the economy fell in April, while inflation expectations rose. This emerged from the final figures from the University of Michigan on Friday.

The consumer confidence index fell from 79.4 in March to 77.2 this month.

Confidence in the current state of the economy deteriorated from 82.5 to 79.3. Respondents also became slightly less optimistic about economic expectations. This sub-index fell from 77.4 to 76.0.

Inflation expectations for the next 12 months were 3.2 percent in April, compared to 2.9 percent at the end of March. Inflation expectations for the next 5 years rose from 2.8 to 3.0 percent.
