Ajax could really use a Sparta midfielder, Andy van der Meijde thinks. The analyst indicates in the Veronica Offside program that he is impressed by the qualities of the Brazilian footballer and would advise technical director Alex Kroes to keep an eye on the Spartan.
“A fantastic player,” Van der Meijde notes after the match between PSV and Sparta in the Philips Stadium, in which Metinho put his name on the scoreboard with a nice goal: “Maybe something for Ajax in midfield. He is athletic, strong and has scoring ability. Ajax could use that at the moment,” says Van der Meijde, who would advise Kroes to keep an eye on the Brazilian.

“I don’t think the club has a lot of money to bring players from abroad. I would definitely get him, I think he suits Ajax very well,” Van der Meijde continues. Ajax would not be able to pick up Metinho from Sparta after the end of this season, as he has been rented from Troyes by the Rotterdam club. The midfielder is still there until mid-2026.
Metinho has played 22 games for Sparta so far this season, scoring twice. On Sunday afternoon, the Brazilian beautifully defeated PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez.
