A 67-year-old woman caused a collision on the A59 near Nuland in North Brabant on Saturday afternoon and was killed. The woman drove on the wrong side of the road, the police told NU.nl.

The victim of the collision is a 67-year-old woman from Sint-Michielsgestel. The police received a report around 1:30 PM that a wrong-way driver was driving on the A59. “Fifteen minutes later a report of a collision was received,” said a police spokesperson.

The two occupants of the other car were injured in the collision. The man and woman were taken to hospital as a precaution. “Their injuries did not appear to be too serious, but it was a significant blow,” the spokesperson said.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing. Why the woman started driving wrong-way, and whether other incidents occurred, is part of that investigation. “A car with damage to the bodywork was standing a kilometer before the scene of the accident. It is not yet clear whether there is a connection with the collision,” the police said.

The highway is closed between Nuland and Oss. It is not yet known how long this will take, according to Rijkswaterstaat.
