All prize winners in the second division of women’s football are known. In Second National A, Bredene won the competition by force majeure. Things went badly wrong on the last day of play.

Bredene is champion with 62 points, Borsbeke is second with 54 points. Who comes third? That is not yet certain, because RWDM and Herent are currently in third place and the people of Brussels still have a match ahead of them.

Match stopped ten minutes before time

Their match against Mazenzele Opwijk was stopped last weekend. The referee on duty felt unsafe and therefore had no choice but to stop the match. It is not yet clear what will happen with the match.

Ten minutes before the end it was 0-1 for Mazenzele Opwijk. A RWDM supporter then shouted terrible things at the ref. This is testified by the (outgoing) coach of Mazenzele Opwijk. “When RWDM kicked off, a home fan shouted that the referee had to pay attention if he wanted to go home alive.”

Wanting to go home alive

“The ref felt threatened by the fan’s screams and decided to stop the match. I can understand the fear of such a young ref. He is on his own, right,” said coach Kjell Baeyens in Het Newspaper.

Will the last ten minutes of the match still be made up? That remains to be seen. The score may remain or there may be a forfeit defeat. We would like to keep you informed in the coming days and weeks.
