Premier League (England)

At the same time as Tottenham – Arsenal (2-3), AFC Bournemouth made mincemeat of Brighton & Hove Albion, thanks to many former Premier League players. Marcos Senesi (ex-Feyenoord), Enes Ünal (ex-NAC and ex-FC Twente) and Justin Kluivert (ex-Ajax) all scored at the Vitality Stadium to give the home team a big 3-0 win over Bart’s Brighton Verbruggen, Jan-Paul van Hecke and Joël Veltman. Only Verbruggen played minutes and therefore scored three goals.

Serie A (Italy)

Internazionale, which secured its twentieth national title on Monday, won 2-0 against mid-table Torino on the day of the ceremony. Hakan Calhanoglu scored both goals after the break. Torino’s Adrien Tamèze received a red card in the 49th minute. Stefan de Vrij was the only Dutchman on the field against Torino. The defender played the entire match, Davy Klaassen remained on the bench and Denzel Dumfries was suspended after his red card against Milan. The team will celebrate the national title on Sunday afternoon with a bus tour through Milan and a tribute by the supporters.

Bologna has not managed to pass number three Juventus in the rankings. Coach Thiago Motta’s team only managed a draw in front of their home crowd: 1-1. Argentinian Martín Payero gave Udinese the lead in injury time of the first half. Bologna had to continue with one man less from the 64th minute, after former AZ defender Sam Beukema was booked twice in a short time. The home team still grabbed a point thanks to Alexis Saelemaekers. The Belgian shot the ball from a long distance from a free kick over goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, who previously played for Sparta.

In addition to Beukema, Joshua Zirkzee also had a starting place. The striker was given a yellow card fifteen minutes before the end. Bologna remains in fourth place, eight points ahead of number six Lazio. The first five clubs from Serie A qualify for the Champions League.

Atalanta is doing good business, AS Roma takes a late point in Naples

Atalanta is again in the race to participate in the Champions League next season. Trainer Gian Piero Gasperini saw his team put aside Empoli 2-0. AS Roma, the current number five, drew 2-2 with reigning champion Napoli.

Mario Pasalic scored the first goal for Atalanta shortly before halftime from a penalty kick. Nigerian Ademola Lookman doubled the lead in the early stages of the second half. Captain Marten de Roon was substituted in the 56th minute. Hans Hateboer and Teun Koopmeiners came on as substitutes during the second half. Mitchel Bakker was and remained a reserve. Atalanta will play Olympique Marseille in the semi-finals of the Europa League on Thursday.

At Napoli against Roma, all four goals came in the last half hour. Paulo Dybala used a penalty for Roma in the 59th minute: 0-1. Mathías Olivera quickly equalized, after which Victor Osimhen scored for Napoli from a penalty: 2-1. Substitute Tammy Abraham headed Roma past in the last minute of regular time: 2-2.

Dean Huijsen remained on the reserve bench at AS Roma, where Rick Karsdorp was missing. AS Roma is also still in the Europa League and will meet Bayer Leverkusen in the other semi-final.

Ligue 1 (France)

Georges Mikautadze, who is rented from Ajax by FC Metz, keeps scoring in Ligue 1. The Georgia international opened the score from the spot in the first half of the home match against Lille. Mikautadze scored his eleventh goal in his seventeenth Ligue 1 appearance. That wasn’t enough for the win. Lille managed to turn the 1-0 deficit into a 1-2 lead before half time. That was ultimately the final score.

Thijs Dallinga was also important. The Dutch striker scored the 1-1 on behalf of FC Toulouse when they visited FC Lorient, after which former NEC player Ibrahim Cissoko scored the three points for the away team: 1-2.

Goalkeeper Marco Bizot won with Stade Brest after a goal celebration against Stade Rennes: 5-4. Azor Matusiwa was in the starting line-up at Rennes. He provided the assist for Arnaud Kalimuendo’s opening goal in the fourth minute, who also scored the 2-0. Stade Brest turned the tide and led 4-2, but then Rennes came back to 4-4. Deep into injury time, Lilian Brassier helped Bizot’s team to three points. Brest is third.

Bundesliga (Germany)

SV Darmstadt has been relegated from the Bundesliga again after a year. The last team lost the home match against FC Heidenheim (0-1) and can therefore no longer track number sixteen FSV Mainz. Numbers 17 and 18 are relegated.

The Austrian Nikola Dovedan scored the winning goal shortly before the end for Heidenheim, which was promoted together with Darmstadt a year ago. Darmstadt has played in the Bundesliga three times before this season. The last time was from 2015 to 2017. In 2017 the club finished last and was relegated.

La Liga (Spain)

Edition 141 of El Gran Derbi between Real Betis and Sevilla FC ended in a 1-1 draw. Real Betis took the lead after 38 minutes, after the 60,000 spectators in Estadio Benito Villamarín cheered on Isco’s striking penalty. Ten minutes after the break, Sevilla leveled with a striking header from Kike Salas. Halfway through the second half, Isco seemed to be allowed to take another shot from eleven meters after he got Loïc Badé’s hand in the face, but VAR intervened and the penalty was withdrawn. It is already the fourth time in a row that the derby has ended in a draw.

Real Betis is seventh in La Liga and is still competing with number six Real Sociedad (two points more) for a place in the Conference League. After a poor first half of the season, Sevilla is thirteenth and will miss out on European football for the second time in twenty years. Last season, Sevilla finished a disappointing twelfth, but went on to win the Champions League by winning the Europa League for the seventh time in seventeen years. In the Champions League group with Arsenal, PSV and RC Lens, Sevilla finished fourth.

Club Brugge previously won 3-0 at Racing Genk. Anderlecht and Club Brugge both have 42 points. Union is on 41 points.

Anderlecht took the lead in the eleventh minute with a goal from Mario Stroeykens. After Luis Vázquez had bumped into goalkeeper Warleson, the 19-year-old midfielder scored. Shortly after the break, Jesper Daland equalized with a long shot.

Earlier in the day, Club Brugge won the away match against Racing Genk 3-0. Kyriani Sabbe, Hugo Vetlesen and Igor Thiago scored for the people of Bruges, who had already won 4-0 at home against the Limburgers last week.

In Brussels, Mark van Bommel again lost big. On Thursday evening, his Royal Antwerp FC lost 3-0 at home to Union Sint-Gillis and things did not go much better there on Sunday. Vincent Janssen opened the score, but just before half time the home team turned the deficit into a 2-1 lead. After the break, Cameron Puerta scored twice again, just like on Thursday: 4-1.

Royal Antwerp and Union will play against each other again on Thursday, May 9 (Ascension Day), in the final of the Croky Cup in the Heysel Stadium in Brussels.
