Missing cat in US travels 1000 kilometers with return package: ‘Fear was unbearable’ | RTL News

--

For a week, American Carrie Clark lived between hope and fear. Her cat Galeana was missing, and a days-long search turned up nothing. Until an Amazon employee in California found the animal in a return package sent by the owner herself.

A vet then scanned Galeana’s chip and found Clark, who could barely believe what had happened. Galeana had spent the entire trip in a pair of work boots. And that journey was long. Clark lives in Utah, about 1,000 kilometers away.

The cat had been deprived of water and food for a week, but still managed to survive. A hole in the box provided the necessary oxygen.

‘The fear was unbearable’

“Galeana just loves boxes. It’s part of her personality,” Clark told local KSL TV. “The fear and stress of not knowing what was happening to her was unbearable.”

The vet’s call was a huge relief, but it did pose a major challenge. California isn’t around the corner, but Clark wasn’t sure how quickly she should book a flight there.

‘Check Your Boxes’

“We brought Galeana’s pink baby carrier, her favorite treats and towels that smelled like home,” Clark said. According to her, Galeana immediately calmed down when she was in her arms.

Clark also spoke with Brandy, the Amazon employee who initially found Galeana. “She was thrilled to hear that we had found Galeana.”

Galeana was eventually reunited with her family through her microchip, and a good dose of luck. Clark encourages all cat owners to have your cat microchipped. “And check your Amazon boxes!”
