Blinken: Ceasefire Most Effective Way to Ease Gaza’s Humanitarian Crisis

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has arrived in the Saudi capital Riyadh. The minister is visiting the Middle East in the hope of achieving a ceasefire in Gaza.

According to Blinken, this is the most effective way to alleviate the “humanitarian crisis” in the Palestinian territory. He says “measurable progress” has been made in recent weeks in the delivery of emergency aid, but at the same time urges Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza.

On Sunday, a US foreign spokesman announced that Blinken’s trip had been expanded to include visits to Jordan and Israel. That announcement came not long after a statement from a Hamas official that the Palestinian terror movement sees “no major problems” in Israel’s latest proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.

In Saudi Arabia, Blinken is expected to speak with senior officials from Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan about what the governance of the Gaza Strip should look like after the war. Humanitarian aid to the people of the Gaza Strip will also be discussed, the US Department of State previously announced.
