ZAANDAM – “This was actually the most beautiful day of my life. Except for the birth of my son,” says power woman Anita van Westrop about her performance last Sunday. She can officially call herself Dutch Champion ‘Miss Physical’. “It was my party and I made it that way. The whole room went wild! It was amazing.”

“I thought no matter what people think, this is going to be my party!”
Sunday April 28th was the day; the National Bodybuilding Championships in Oss. Anita, together with her coaches Jet de Boer and Michael Aberkrom, made it one big party. “We really just had fun and had a good time. There’s no point in worrying. If you are well trained, all you have to do is show your biceps,” says Anita.
And then the big cup as official Dutch Champion ‘Miss Physical’.
“My opening dance was to ‘Staying Alive’ by the Bee Gees and you understand why,” she says with a wink. Anita has survived multiple heart attacks and strokes and is a true inspiration to others. “I have been approached by dozens of people all day long. Especially that they have so much respect for me, after everything I’ve been through.”
On to the European Championships in Bulgaria?
“When I received the cup, I raised my finger. Also to show my father that I will continue! I was really the oldest on the podium and was able to go straight to the European Championships in Bulgaria. But I turned that down. I really want to calm my body down. I’m not twenty anymore,” she laughs.
And yet she is already secretly thinking about her next competition.
