REVIEW. Amateur football live on HLN: Rotselaar champion after 3-1 victory, Beigem also wins, but comes second in the first provincial | Football

--

In collaboration with Voetbal Vlaanderen, HLN offers live amateur football exclusively for subscribers. Every weekend at least one top poster from one of the various amateur series is streamed live with expert commentary. In the first provincial Flemish Brabant, Sportief Rotselaar is champion after a pressing title battle with Beigem-Humbeek. Both teams managed to win their final match, but Rotselaar’s better goal difference made them champions. Check out the summary below!

Beigem-Humbeek hosted Bierbeek at home and the home team had only one goal: to win and hope to lose points to title competitor Rotselaar. Beigem proved to be the more dominant team in the first half and a goal seemed to come quickly. But that was not included in the Bierbeek defense.

The visitors were very strong in defense and so Beigem did not easily get through, despite frantic efforts. However, bad news came from Rotselaar after just fifteen minutes of play. The title rival took a 1-0 lead after a penalty goal. Ten minutes later the hangover got even worse when the second goal came in Rotselaar. Beigem kept looking for that opening goal, but was unable to score and saw the title slip further and further away. But Elewijt did not give in. The green and white scored the 2-1 against Rotselaar just before half time. So there was still a glimmer of hope left for Beigem.

After the break it was immediately a prize for Beigem. The long-awaited opening goal finally came. Olbrechts opened the scoring. But that opening goal was quickly canceled out by Bierbeek: 1-1. However, Beigem did not give up and moved up a gear. The 2-1 and 3-1 followed quickly and Beigem continued to hope that Rotselaar would lose points. The misery for the visitors from Bierbeek was complete when a fourth goal was scored.

Despite their victory, Beigem has to settle for second place in the rankings. Because Rotselaar also managed to win 3-1 for its own people after a goal in the final minutes. After the match, Thomas Van Stichel, the grandson of Anderlecht icon Michel Verschueren, was honored because he played his last match in the colors of Beigem.
