Yesterday afternoon a serious skiing accident claimed the life of a 66-year-old man from the Czech Republic on the Kitzsteinhorn near Kaprun. The man collided with a Dutch winter sports enthusiast.

Details of the accident

Around 2:10 PM on Monday, two skiers collided head-on. A 66-year-old Czech national and a 53-year-old man from the Netherlands were the parties involved in this accident on the slopes of the Austrian glacier ski area. Despite the quick response and immediate first aid, the Czech skier’s life could not be saved. The doctor from the rescue helicopter “Martin I” had to confirm the man’s death on the spot, according to local police.

Aftermath

The 53-year-old Dutchman was taken by helicopter to the hospital in Zell am See with unknown injuries. The wife of the deceased Czech has been taken care of by a crisis intervention team.

In response to the incident, the public prosecutor in Salzburg ordered an autopsy on the body of the deceased skier. This procedure is standard in accidents of this nature, to determine the exact cause of death and gain more insight into how the accident happened. Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
