Turkish flash delivery company Getir has announced that it is withdrawing from the American, British, German and Dutch markets to focus exclusively on the domestic market.

“Getir has announced that it is leaving Europe and the United States, where it generates 7% of its revenue, to focus on Turkey,” the fast trading company announced on Monday. This decision once again illustrates the difficulties of a sector that experienced a real boom in the wake of the Covid crisis. At that time, a number of players (Getir, Gorillas, Flink, Gopuff…) were fighting a fierce battle with aggressive promotions and promises of 10-minute delivery of everyday consumer goods… Before the slowdown in activities gradually led to a consolidation phase, with Getir swallowing its German rival Gorillas in 2022. However, this was not enough to solve all the problems of a business model that had raised doubts about its ability to be profitable from the outset. Last summer, the Turkish platform was forced to undertake a major restructuring, with the loss of 2,500 jobs in five countries. Earlier this month, Flink, one of the last courier services in France, announced the end of its activities.
