Limited Run Games has become known for providing physical editions of games that would otherwise not have received such a release, often both lavish and beautiful. But they haven’t been without controversy lately, and last year one employee, Kara Lynne, was fired in high-profile circumstances after an online mob led by a trans activist took aim at Lynne for her hype for the then-unreleased Hogwarts Legacy on social media and for following right-wing users on Twitter.

And now they’re once again drawing attention in questionable ways. This time it is reported that Limited Run Games is in some cases selling burned CDs (CD-R) instead of pressed CDs, without informing the public. Nevertheless, they charge full price for the games and call them “limited game release”, which certainly makes one wonder how limited burned CDs really are.

In this case, they’re 3DO titles, and as other users have pointed out (on Reddit and elsewhere), in an alarming number of cases these full-price games can’t even be used in a 3DO, with users writing that in the past they have also had issues with several Limited Run Games releases.

The company has not yet commented on the issue, which, however, risks turning into a storm as there are currently hot sentiments on social media from buyers who really feel cheated.
