FC Utrecht fans seem to have little difficulty with the dire situation in which Vitesse finds itself. Today’s opponent has already been relegated due to a points penalty and is fighting for survival. But a meaningful banner flies above the Galgenwaard.

‘Vitesse success in the KKD’ (Kitchen Champion Division ed.) is clearly stated on the banner, referring to the division where the opponent from Arnhem will play next season. In the stadium, supporters reinforce these words by singing loudly: ‘Never to Arnhem again’. Cynical sounds on social media: ‘Bye’.

In the meantime, Vitesse is fighting for its own survival and a fundraising campaign has been launched for which donors are being sought. While FC Utrecht itself is also hoping for donors today, due to an action by the main sponsor in combination with the blood bank. That is why the cathedral residents will play in a different uniform on a one-off basis. Moreover, the club has something to celebrate: owner and major financier Frans van Seumeren has his birthday today and is 74 years old.
