Overijssel Liberation Festival 2024 will go down as a sun-drenched edition. With headliners such as Che’Special, Flemming and Suzan and Freek on stage, the site was packed almost the entire day. But there was also plenty happening outside the main stage.
This edition of the Overijssel liberation festival in Zwolle was one of literal and figurative highlights. For example, the Ambassadors of Freedom were traditionally flown to the festival site at great heights. Flemming was dropped off in a military aircraft that normally serves as a destroyer. But highlights were experienced not only on the stages, but also in other places on the festival grounds. Yiwei Chen (30) and Tim Wissink (29) came from Eindhoven to Zwolle to enjoy Chef’ Special from a raised wheelchair platform. And Sanne Hoevenaars and daughter Sien from Nijmegen took it even further. They dared to take a spin on the Ferris wheel.
But not only the visitors experienced highlights today. For rapper Pjotr, his very first performance on the main stage was a true highlight. “I really enjoyed it,” says the rapper from Zutphen when he has just stepped off stage at the beginning of Sunday afternoon. “Five years ago I was here on a smaller stage and it is great that I have now risen to a bigger stage.”
He calls the Overijssel Liberation Festival ‘a prestigious festival’. “Zwolle, like Zutphen, is located on the IJssel, so it is wonderful to be here. My music is always full of content and messages. Also songs about freedom and chasing your dreams and that fits very well here.”

The Overijssel Liberation Festival in Zwolle not only features performances by artists, but also other activities. Linda Tiesma and Rowan van Drogen (the night mayors of Zwolle) stand near a real confession booth, with a beer in their hand.

Grietje (98) enjoys life with great-grandson Délano
Gretel van Dijk and her great-grandson Délano van der Most (18) enjoy together at the Liberation Festival in Zwolle.
While the opening concert at the Overijssel Liberation Festival previously attracted many elderly people, this edition is a great experience old and young with each other. Grietje and Délano are perhaps the most striking examples of this.

It remains dry, reports Weerplaza
While at the beginning of Liberation Day there was still some thought of a shower here and there, the weather forecast more favorable for visitors of BFO24. According to Weerplaza it will remain dry until midnight.
The wind will turn around in the evening and to decrease.
What a contrast with a year ago, then BFO23 was struggling with emergency weather and even had to be temporarily shut down.

Acute hernia will not stop Chef’Special
A acute hernia by singer Joshua Nolet seemed to throw a spanner in the works, but the band Chef’Special will be there, later at 3 p.m. on the main stage.

The organization of BFO24 is calling children by 6 to 12 year on for one positive protest which starts at 5:45 PM on the main stage.
The children can then hold plates and dance to the song Europapa with which Joost Klein participates on behalf of the Netherlands Eurovision songfestival 2024.
Parents can register their children by sending an email to [email protected] or via the Instagram account liberationsfestivaloverijssel.
