Ankie*, a passionate walker, had completed the famous Pieterpad with her husband just a week before the accident. Her love for exploring Dutch nature has become part of her life.

Now she is confined to the couch with a sore foot, waiting for her operation next week.

Unknown woman

The events of that day are still painful for Ankie, but one bright spot is clearly etched in her memory: the help of an unknown woman who assisted her immediately after the accident. Her ‘saving angel’, says Ankie. “From what I remember, she had dark blonde hair and her voice sounded like someone between 30 and 50 years old. She said she had just come back from working out.”

The driver also remained at the scene of the accident until the ambulance arrived, but the reassurance that the unknown woman gave was exactly what Ankie needed. “She reassured me and stayed with me all this time. Exactly what I needed at that moment.”

Quest

As she recovers from her injuries, Ankie has an urgent desire to find her savior angel and sincerely thank her.

She put out a call on social media, hoping it will get the attention of the person who was by her side at the time. To date, Ankie has not had any success in her search. The mysterious woman remains out of her reach and Ankie is left with questions about the accident. By telling her story, she hopes that the woman will come forward.

Ankie* is not her real name. For privacy reasons, she prefers to remain anonymous.
