Omar E. killed two mothers and two children: the Public Prosecution Service will appeal

The Public Prosecution Service will appeal in the case of Omar E. The man from Roosendaal killed two mothers and two children in Oud Gastel in September 2022. E. was recently given a prison sentence of four years, much lower than the eight years demanded.

The Roosendaler killed four people at high speed in Oud Gastel at the beginning of September 2022. A 9-year-old girl was injured, but was the only one to survive the enormous blow. According to the public prosecutor, Omar E.’s driving behavior could best be described as ‘reckless, antisocial and selfish’. “

The court agreed at the end of last month. Yet the sentence was much lower than demanded. According to the court, this is because Justice Omar E. accused two separate crimes: killing four people and injuring the girl. The court explained in detail to the surviving relatives that this allowed the justice department to demand a higher sentence. The court also sees the deaths and injuries as two facts, but as a result of one and the same accident. Hence the lower penalty.

The Public Prosecution Service does not accept that assessment and is now appealing. “The Public Prosecution Service does not agree with the motivation for the sentence,” it writes in a press release.
