Anyone who wants to climb a mountain electrically, cross a ravine or brave a curb in a Defender at the cheapest price can now opt for the new P300e Electric Hybrid version. In terms of price and power, this Defender is below the existing PHEV, which will continue to exist. Before fans of fossil fuels turn away: there is also a new V8 and a new diesel, the latter of which will not come to the Netherlands.

We will continue about the new engines in a moment, but first we have to talk about the new second row seats in the extra long Defender 130. The so-called captain charis can be heated and cooled, have armrests and adjustable headrests. All versions with a V8 and all versions starting with X have these seats as standard.

There is also a new ‘Signature Interior’ package, which is again standard in the X and V8 models and optional for other versions. This package adds 14-way adjustable heated and cooled front seats, along with more material choices throughout the interior, soft-touch accents, a center console side pocket and a different headliner.

The Defender’s new powertrains

Okay, so the new engines. The new PHEV powertrain is called P300e Electric Hybrid and consists of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 300 hp and 625 Nm. This would allow you to tow a caravan of up to 3,000 kilos. In fully electric mode you can drive 50 kilometers with a reduced top speed of 140 km/h. After half an hour of charging, the battery is filled from 0 to 80 percent.

In addition, there is a new V8 named P425. As the name suggests, this eight-cylinder has 425 hp, making it a bit milder than the P525. The new V8 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. The price of the new V8 is not yet known. Of the new Defender PHEV. It costs at least 87,543 euros in the Netherlands, which makes it the cheapest Defender. Before this, the Defender 110 SE with P400e engine was the cheapest at a price of 95,004 euros.

Only this year you can also choose the Defender 110 ‘Sedona Edition’. This is the Defender above which gets a rich red colour, 22-inch gloss black wheels and all the interior equipment from the X-Dynamic HSE version. This Sedona version also has the box mounted on the side. According to Defender, you can transport ‘wet and muddy clothing or tools’ in this.
