Samsung Medison, a medical arm of Samsung Electronics that specializes in the development of medical imaging machines, presents its action plan.

Samsung Medison plans to acquire Sonio, a start-up that designs AI-based ultrasound software, for $92.7 million.

This AI assistant should help obstetricians and gynecologists with the interpretation of ultrasound scans. This product uses deep learning algorithms to improve the quality of the acquired images in real time.

Samsung also stated that following its acquisition, Sonio would remain an independent company and continue to expand and offer its products and services in its country of origin, France.

Founders, Cécile Brosset and Rémi Besson, recently raised $14 million for their startup in a Series A capital round led by Cross Border Impact Ventures in August 2023.

Yong Kwan Kim, CEO of Samsung Medison, stated: “With the acquisition of Sonio, Samsung Medison will fulfill its commitment to improving people’s quality of life through technology.“ He is confident that the collaboration with the start-up will bring together the best AI technology for ultrasound and the most advanced reporting capabilities, leading to significant changes in prenatal examinations.

Rami Brosset explains: “We have found a great, reliable partner in Samsung Medson to continue and accelerate our roadmap and mission. In addition to the close collaboration with the Korean giant, Sonio will continue to improve medical reporting technology“.
