The US will no longer send bombs and artillery shells to Israel if Netanyahu continues the invasion of Rafah. The American president said this in an interview with CNN on Wednesday evening. According to him, bombs previously supplied by the US caused civilian deaths in Rafah.

The president’s willingness to make the sending of American weapons conditional on Israel’s actions marks a turning point in the seven-month conflict between Israel and Hamas.

It is the first time since October 7 that Biden has threatened ally Israel with stopping arms deliveries. The United States halted the supply of ammunition to Israel last week. Washington did this because Israel had not addressed concerns about plans for a ground offensive in the southern Gazan city of Rafah.

“We stopped one weapons shipment last week. It consists of eighteen hundred 907-kilogram bombs and seventeen hundred 226-kilogram bombs,” a government official said at the time.

“Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a result of those bombs and other ways in which they attack population centers,” Biden said in the interview with CNN on Wednesday evening. He was referring to the discontinuation of the ammunition supply.
