Party in Uden, sadness in Schaijk: UDI’19 takes the cup after a real battle against DAW | Amateur football

--

Cup finalDAW fought back more than bravely, but after a real battle of attrition, UDI’19 won the district cup: the score was 2-0 in Heerlen after extra time. The fourth division player fulfilled the role of favorite, especially because UDI’19 had just a little more left. Substitutes Jan van de Haterd and Vince Indische made the difference.

The anticipation towards the final had been great for weeks in the municipality of Maashorst, and especially in Schaijk. Because what a feat DAW has achieved in the cup this season. The second division had already beaten two teams from the fourth division before the final and there was belief that UDI’19 could also be defeated. It quickly became clear on the field that it would be a very tough match, with small differences.

Because DAW fought for every meter, went all out and did not hesitate to slow down the game. And that was to the disadvantage of UDI’19, which never really got into the match and was unable to make a difference for a long time. Although things could have gone very differently, after 12 minutes Raoul Oomen nodded the ball onto the Schaijk crossbar after an error in judgment by the goalkeeper. It remained 0-0.

Disappointment

DAW did not have an easy time in the initial phase, also because captain Mark Megens quickly fell injured. And after the break, his brother Corik also dropped out. That saves a sip on a drink, but DAW still remained a tough task. In fact, before half time the Schaijkeners still had a good chance of making it 0-1 through Siem van Merwijk.

But that didn’t happen either, just as there were no more goals scored in the second half. Oomen had the best chance on behalf of UDI’19, but he shot wide from a promising position. Just like Roel Janssen did on behalf of DAW.

And so it was extended in Heerlen, and that extra time ultimately cost the second division team the lead. UDI’19 had more left and Jan van de Haterd nodded the ball into the net in the 102nd minute: 1-0. DAW then started playing all or nothing, but it was UDI’19 that determined the final score at 2-0 via another substitute, Vince Indische.

And so all that remains is pride in Schaijk and UDI’19 makes up for the season by winning a nice prize.

Stunt crew

DAW has become the stunt team in the cup tournament this season. The team of coach Rob van der Ven has already managed to eliminate a fourth division player twice. Now let UDI’19 play at that same level. In short: don’t underestimate cupfighter DAW.

140 kilometers one way

About a thousand supporters from the municipality of Maashorst boarded the bus or car today for the cup final in Heerlen (!). 140 kilometers one way. It is a bit reminiscent of the Super Cup between Barcelona and Real Madrid that was played in Saudi Arabia, but on a smaller scale.
