Omroep Flevoland – News – Windows of several primary schools smashed: ‘It is a daily prize’

--

A large number of windows were smashed at the public primary school De Lepelaar in Lelystad. Especially the windows that are just out of sight of the road have been shattered.

Many of the smashed windows of the school at Kempenaar 1458 are paneled. A glazier company is working to replace the windows. The damage is particularly significant at the back of the school. All windows have been smashed.

Chunks of stone are scattered here and there on the schoolyard. Not only were the windows destroyed, the cameras attached to the roof edge were also shattered.

It’s a daily price
A little further on in the Kempenaar district, there is also damage at the Integrated Child Center Mozaiek. Here too, several windows have been smashed with stones. A number of employees are busy cleaning up all the glass splinters in the classrooms. Here too, glaziers are busy repairing the damage.

The employees have collected a large amount of broken bricks on a bench in front of the smashed doors. These were probably used to break the windows.

One of the employees says that damage is regularly caused to the building. “Especially now during the May holidays, there is no stopping it.”

Gathering ban
The area surrounding both schools has often been the scene of vandalism. In mid-August 2023, then acting mayor Ineke Bakker therefore imposed a temporary ban on gatherings. The nuisance in the area then decreased.

The ban on gatherings was lifted in November last year. It is not known whether the municipality of Lelystad wants to reintroduce such a ban on gatherings due to the current vandalism.
